I just finished reading a book called "Weight Loss That Lasts", and it was an eye-opener. It gave 10 myths of dieting and then examined them, giving the little bits of each myth that are true, and why the rest wasn't. I saw myself in a lot of the myths. Basically, what the book says is the ONLY real way to lose weight and keep it off is by counting calories. It tells why all those other diets - low-carb, low-fat, etc.- don't work, or at least don't last. The following link takes you to a site where you can get the calorie count of virtually any food you can think of, including fast food and major restaurants. If you go to the "Tools" tab, you'll find the word "Expenditure". You can go there and calculate how many calories your body needs to sustain your current weight on a daily basis. Anything below that will result in a loss.
Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program You'll have to copy and paste the on your browser. This makes more sense to me than anything else I've read or tried, and believe me I've read and tried a lot. Just counting calories is one thing that I haven't ever tried. I always had to throw everything else into it like low-fat, low- or carb-free, etc. I'm gonna try this and see what happens. According to the above website, at 50 years of age, 5ft 7in, and 350 lbs. with a sedentary lifestyle I need 2700 calories a day to sustain my current weight. I'm gonna go for 2000 a day. That should be enough to cause a weight loss without losing it too fast. If it works I'll definitely post the results.
