I agree with seeing large quantities of food and eating more than we should. Seeing so much food is deceiving.

And not wasting food. I still can't throw food away, it's like a crime.

Day 4 has not been very successful. Too much carbohydrates, bread. And cherries, but still I am not in pain and I am not bingeing. Is it like gradually reducing binge?

Hey, binge eaters, are you out there? Come out, come out, wherever you are. Start posting about your fight, it's helpful.

Tomorrow I am going to write down a list of trigger foods for bingeing. That's going to be interesting...

Wow, 155 views and no one else joined the thread but Debbie and I!

Where are you lurkers - binge eaters? It's okay to come out and post.

So here is the list for trigger food that start bingeing:
1. Pizza. Just the smell of it, and the first bite.

2. Cheesecake. Can't stop when I have just a small piece.

3. Nuts. Any kind of nuts but the favorite ones are hazelnuts.

4. Edamame. Who'd thunk?

5. Chips. Secretly eating my husband's stash.

6. Fresh bread. With great smell it's deadly. I have to eat a lot.

7. CHOCOLATE. No comment.

8. Chinese food, esp. glazed chicken, those small orange balls.

9. Cuties - soy ice cream. I can eat the whole pack in one setting.

10. Kashi bars.

11. When the binge is in a full force, I can eat anything in sight as long as I can chew and swallow. Usually I eat a lot of fruit and some veggies.

By the time I am done, my stomach hurts, I am bloated and sick, and there is no food in the house. But it all starts with having trigger foods in sight, smelling them, thinking about them, opening the fridge or cupboards and staring at them.

That's it. It's all in the open.

Day 5. No bingeing to the point of pain but still too much fruit. It's summer and we have a small "fruit stand" in the kitchen with tons of everything.

I tell myself that just one apple, one peach, two pears, two bowls of cherries, one bowl of grapes, two tall glasses of smoothie wouldn't hurt but it's not water, it's calories that add up.

Water. I will drink water before I eat any fruit. Yes, I'll try that tomorrow.

my binge list.

can be anything really, will raid son's stash of goldfish or graham crackers or whatever is in there if my favorites aren't around.

i used to hide cookie dough in our freezer as a teenager and also eat it out of the fridge of the family for whom i babysat. VERY SECRETIVE ONE!

POPCORN
INDIAN FOOD - love the buffet. it's all about binging for me
pnut butter
corn chips - if they're around
ice cream (this one is newer and not so often)
cottage cheese and potato chips (just since being pregnant and ate as a kid)
COOKIE DOUGH - cannot have just a little - unless i am really making cookies, even then i sample too much
i can overeat soups, salads, rice, etc, but pasta is the one i always go back for more.
fresh bread, too.
i can overdo edamame as well
i don't tend to binge on fruit - not such a fruit eater
chocolate chips from the freezer - they'd be part of eating night, but ic an only have so many.
there's this one cereal that always gets me - its actually pretty healthy but i tend to overeat it.
i was subbing carrots for awhile there - i felt ok about that as i never got to stomach ache.

Will come back tomorrow and write about WHY I BINGE/OVEREAT

*to let go
*to get away
*to do what I want
*because i don't want to care

Secretive eating. Does anyone do that? I feel like a little girl when I am alone in the house and I have to eat fast because nobody can see that I am eating binge foods. Like I am stealing or something. And I am 42 years old. Go figure.

Wow I was/am a binge eater for many years. I have Bulimia (I don't ever believe that your 100% cured from it) and have long suffered the consequences of that kind of behavior. I haven't binged in a while. One of the break through for me was discovering my triggers. For me they are skipping meals ad high emotional states especially stress and disappointment/failure. Keeping hydrated and not allowing my blood sugar to drop too drastically have helped. So did doing a full body cleanse (not the kind you pick up at the drugstore... with an actual Naturopath). Dieting & counting calories would also trigger the cycle as I would deprive myself to the point to no control. I have done some pretty shameful things with food but seam to have stumbled to some kind of balance so that I have it under control, at least for now. I have at least gotten to the point where I can stop, spit and walk away.

Paula, that's why I am not dieting or counting calories. It triggers bingeing. Momentarily.

My goal is to stop bingeing and restrictive diets or control just sets up another cycle of bingeing - dieting.

A question for you: Do you spit the food out? For real? I grew up being taught that you never waste food.

Thanks for sharing. I hope you will post more. I am learning from you and Debbie.

A good bit of this sounds like me(1,3,4,5,7) but I don't know how to fix it. I went to Oa multiple time but it always seemed to hurt me more than it helped. While following the steps I was so depressed I just didn't want to get up in the morning or anything. What makes it worse is my struggle with picking a higher power.

Ummmm... ya it's gross but a couple of times I have caught myself with a mouthful of binge and I have had the clarity to say to myself why am I doing this. If I swallow it it makes it ok to eat more or I just feel so guilty it sets of the bulimia cycle. I just give myself permission to decide to walk away. I know I'm not hungry and I'm doing it out of emotion or whatever. I know it's really screwed up but in a way it's empowering and stops the binge dead in it's tracks. Now I can usually catch it before I even put it in my mouth and I just put it back. Wrap it and put it in the fridge. It's not perfect but it's the baby steps that are moving me towards a more healthy attitude towards food. My mom raised me not to waste food and clean my plate. It takes a lot to retrain our brains.
