Default Baby steps to motivate

I heard this 2 days ago on Oprah. She had a doctor on that specialized in eating healthy and putting years back on your life. When speaking of exercise, he said that many people make the mistake of waiting to feel more motivated in order to take action when in reality, it is in taking the action that many times makes you feel motivated. In other words, take a baby step even if you don't feel particularly ready to take on the whole walk. That baby step is usually less threatening and more enjoyable than you imagined and will many times motivate you to take the next step...and the next.....and the next.* When I totally didn't feel like getting back into the groove of healthy eating and activity, I made myself just get on the treadmill for a minute or 2 at a low speed.* It definately did motivate me to keep going when I saw how easy it is. The self expectations don't have to be enormous. They can be very little. Just take little steps in the right direction and it's amazing how the momentum builds up all by itself.

I saw that show and now feel like I can't eat anything!!* When I heard the doctor say that, I remembered myself doing that.* Its hard but to get motivated you have to get active.* Today I went for a workout and love the way I feel afterwards, so I want to do it again.* I've also been the type of person that wants to get in shape so I could go to the gym!!* How does that make sense?!* To lose weight I have to hit the gym.* Well, I stopped thinking that way and now am going to the gym.
Well, good luck!

This is*EXACTLY what I posted on the boards about a month or so ago, but of course, if it's on Oprah, then it's Gospel truth. :-)* I was about to give up on my weight-loss attempts and my weightwatchers leader said: follow the program....don't expect to be motivated to do what it takes....do what it takes, to get results, and the motivation will follow....I did.* For one week, I followed the plan to the T.* I lost 5.6 lbs., and I have not stopped losing since...after that initial "baby step" and seeing the results of that step, the motivation came...and it hasn't left me.* Now, people have started noticing...and I have found new motivation.* I love Oprah....but I owe this one to Sheila, my wonderful weightwatcher's leader!*
