Talking The 30 Day No-Binge Challenge

Okay BuddySlimmers!

There are a few of us (okay more than a few)... that our big dietary downfall is BINGE EATING and / or Nite Time Eating.

For me, my problem is I will fall asleep perfectly content and then an hour later wake up with a vicious urge to raid my kitchen of all things SUGARY, FATTY, and SALTY. I eat for about 20 minutes and then feel sick, bloated and tired and fall back asleep, convinced that this was the LAST time I ever do that.

I rarely ever binge during the day, but I know some people do so this is for them to.

I am going to see if I can go 30 days in a row of cutting off my eating at night and not binge-ing. If I need to drink some water, chew some gum, drink some soda or go for a walk, I will.

Perhaps on some nights I might need to gnosh on some celery or have a cup of sugar free jell-O.

That's okay.

What I am looking to avoid is the all-out onslaught of gluttony that overtakes me in the wee hours of the night.

Feel free to join in. I am starting today (Friday) but you can join whenever. Mucho thanks to MarathonGirl and Tatiana for the inspiration to start this thread. The longest I have gone recently is 7 days. Let's start with that. By Thanksgiving night I'll be at 7 days. I can do this! and so can you!

Well I'm glad to see somebody else is already in on this.

Why is it the first day is always so hard? I'm watching my son all day today while his Mommy goes out-of-town and I'm having a blast. I can only do so much because I am pretty much couch-bound these days ( see Blog for details)...

but so far I have done well. It's very very hard when you are bored and just sitting around but the only thing I have really snacked on is some sugar free jell-O. This is in addition to my normal "planned" snacks.

See, I usually eat three meals and two snacks per day, about three hours apart. Which usually works like a charm. But lately those 3 hours don't go by so quickly if you don't have anything to do besides watch TV, nap and read.

There is nothing to distract you.

But I'm doing good so far...

Keep focusing Matt....I had that problem when I was out sick monday. Court TV can only entertain to much. Mine actually starts tomorrow since I had already screwed up for the day when I posted. Mine is more than binging but no refined sugar kind of thing as well.....

Well I'm glad you're starting today because I might as well, too. You can see my Blog for details but I pretty much screwed up Friday. So yeah I guess today (SAT) will be my Day One.

It's good to see that you are getting back in there Matthew. I know how hard it is. I have the same issues. My problem is during the day though. Sometimes when i'm up late at night too. I think it's extremely hard because we use food as a way to vent, or comfort ourselves. I think that it's great that everyone on this site can be so open to help each other, so that we can all change our bad habits. I'm in on the challenge too.

Hey there, I am totally in on this challenge as well. I am a terrible binge eater. I think I spotted my problem though. I hardly ever eat breakfast or if I do I generally skip lunch or eat next to nothing. Then when I get home at night I want to eat whatever. I am definitely up for this and am glad to know that we are in it together!

Okay so far... um... not good for me. I'm not binge-ing on huge amounts, but I'm still having trouble saying "No" to those waffles, bowls of cereal and various sandwiches at midnight or there-abouts.

I used to have this great habit where I would only drink water, or drink a diet soda or make some tea with Splenda and then watch TV and it would actually be relaxing.

I should get back to that instead of carbo-loading at midnight as if I was going to run a marathon instead of sit on the couch all day long...

Matt,

I am working on changing my mindset about weight loss but I feel I have to share this with you:

It is a cycle. The binge is just one part of a cycle. YOU SET UP THE BEGINNING OF THE BINGE EVERY TIME YOU GO ON RESTRICTIVE DIET AND EXERCISE AFTER THE BINGE. Yes, I watched you and others, myself included, for months now. Every time we eat under 1200 - 1000 calories next day and exercise like crazy, we set up our brains for the next binge at the end of the cycle... and then there is another beginning with promises and restrictions. Just to fall again... because.... exactly what you do after the binge will lead you to bingeing again.

Tatiana

I agree tatiana. I was on a restrictive diet the first day. The next day I ate a egg with a piece of toast, and half a banana. I ate two chimichangas for lunch, a number one with cheese at burger king for dinner, and for snack I had 5 taquitos. A huge amount of calories, and pretty much no nutrition. I didn't gain any weight back suprisingly. I am doing a diet that you're suposse to do for 3 days then you lose ten pounds, and then take the other four off. It does work, and I got it from a recruiter in the army. It's designed for heart patients that need to drop weight quickly. That's why I decided to take it easy on myself. I have decided to try it every other day, and then try to eat healthy the next. I am just doing the first day of the diet though, because that has taken 3 pounds off everytime I have done it. I don't know how that will work with my first day being a bust. I did have another guilt free day today though. Hopefully in the morning I will have lost another 3 to total 6 since the 16th. I know it's kinda unrealistic. It's worked before, and i'm so damn impatient I just can't see doing it any other way. I have been able to keep the weight off i've lost before. I just get depressed and end up gaining it back. I'm going to look into some type of professional I can talk to on the matter. That may be our only hope. We do have an eating disorder. I've come to terms with it a long time ago.
