Default The Night-Time Snacking Thread

Okay BuddySlimmers... it's about 9pm and I am turning in for the night. I know that within the hour something very bizarre will happen and I will want to get up and eat and eat.

But I am determined to get up and continue this thread. We'll see how it goes...

Okay it's 10:30pm. And yeah... I woke up thinking about OREOS, the pudding I bought today, cold cereal and milk... but here I am chewing some gum and writing on this forum. Because I tell myself I have to start something new. Behavior Modification. I must start. Because it'll never end. Actually, this gum is helping. It's Orbit SweetMint flavor. Think I'll Blog surf a bit. Oh yeah and I did drink a bottle of water too.

Okay I already admitted in my Blog that I did not make it last night. I really hate having to get on here and admit that. I mean, I hate it. But part of this whole thing was keeping accountability. I binged at about 1am. But for some reason I am staying very positive. I guess because I feel like I am slowly making steps to end this habit. I started this forum and last night for the first time I really did make an effort to not eat instead of heading right to the kitchen. So I am eating healthy today... about 1300 calories I think and I walked 4 miles this morning. The missing piece is still the eating @ night but I will return tonight to try again. I know I can make it all night --- I've done it before. I need to end the Bad Habit (eating @ nite) and replace it with the BuddySlim habit and hopefully by the end of this year I'll find myself 20 pounds lighter, flat stomach regained, and no more binges or snacking @ night.

I'm part of the night-snack club woes.

In fact, that seems to be my ONLY problem...as during the day I do so well and I don't eat junk, I never eat fast food, keep my fat intake to 10-15g a day tops...but then, after writing down what I eat, after 7pm, I notice that I SNACK!! So, I was like: "Oh, I'll just have to stop that! So glad I noticed!" and it is easier to say than do for me.

Tonight I am getting my exercise eqpt out (packed away as we are selling our home and trying to make everything look clean and spacious) and going to try to exercise at night and hopefully that will help me to break this terrible habit I got into.

I'll let you know how it goes (or check my blog that I'll be updating).

If anyone else is part of this club and wishes to encourage me/each other, feel free!

Best wishes to you! Sounds like you are making a real effort and so far you are doing great! Day by Day!

Kelly

I know I do the same thing it wakes me up in the middle of the night and I can't go back to sleep unless I eat all of it...But what I found that works for me is I just don't buy it....and I by my children all the stuff I know I won't eat.

heres a tip that you can try, when you feel like snacking go brush your teeth... who wants to eat after you have that minty taste in your mouth!? nothing tastes good!

I'm guilty too. As Kelly said above - this seems to be my ONLY problem. I binge at night. It's like this ravenous being takes over my mind and forces me into the kitchen to get a snack... cheese, crackers, left overs, a couple of 100 calorie snack packs, cereal.... whatever is quick and easy. I've tried everything I can think of except barricading the kitchen. It's totally a habit. I'm not remotely hungry when I do it. I have even stood in front of the fridge and told myself that I'm NOT hungry, that I DON'T need anything to eat... but that doesn't work. I'm going to try Haley's suggestion and brush my teeth instead. Let ya know if it works for me.

As an update to this thread : last week I finally stopped doing this, although I admit Friday I found myself bingeing at 10:30am ( I was on Graveyard Shift... so this would be my "middle of the night"). But the other six days I was great. Which means I ate right and exercised and I lost seven pounds. I don't think I am going to keep losing that much weight every week... nor would it be healthy to do so... but I do think I may have turned a corner where I can stop it by engaging in several new habits:
*drinking water, herbal teas, diet sodas, etc...
*chewing sugarless gum
*blogging on BS
*finding other activities to distract me, such as video games, Net Surfing, Household Chores, or reading...

so far so good...

Another UpDate to this Thread : I have been snacking and eating almost every night since last Saturday. Something in me just has a weird urge to eat, and I'm not even hungry is the worst part. Well, maybe a little bit. But it's not even close to what you feel like when you want to really eat a meal. It's a different urge. And I really want to stop. I know if I do I can be 150 or less by the end of Sept.

I just cannot accept that I am stuck with this stupid stupid habit forever.

When you wake up hungry drink a big glass of water or grab a piece of fruit. It will satisfy those late night cravings fast! I too had the same problem and started doing this now I am dropping weight!
