Talking Need Help with snacks

Hi I'm new here and I need help on snacks that are tasty but that are low in fat. I am at 1400 calories a day and I feel like I am eating too much, when I know I really am not. My biggest issues are that I travel in the car ll the time for work and when I am working it is a 10+ hour day at the computer. So........... I work real hard 4 days and then I crash for one day. I also have a real bad habit of not eating breakfast. I have started doing a Usana Shake in the morning to at least get me in the swing of things to open my mind up for breakfast.

Today is my first day of my eating habit changes for life. I do not like to say I am on a diet, because i do not want to go off of it. I want to be able to change my eating habits to healthy habits (No more drive thru) and stick to it and enjoy it.

I have been on diets in the past and lost the weight but as soon as I go off of them I gain the weight back and then some extra lbs on top of it.

So.......anyone out there have any suggestions as to how to get my metabolism up and good snacks?

I have found that beef jerky or stuffed green olives take away my urges to snack. Just a few bites and I'm satisfied.

I am not a breakfast person either. I know I have to eat it though. I eat low-fat cottage cheese with cherry tomatoes for breakfast most days. Sometimes I also get southbeach cereal bars and have one for breakfast. They are really good and full of protein. I also drink alot of water with my food to help fill me up. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

It has taken me almost a year, but I have finally taught myself to eat breakfast....I have peanut butter toast on whole wheat bread every morning. It's the only thing that doesn't make me feel like barfing afterward, lol...my stomach just doesn't handle food well in the morning!!

For snacks I usually eat fruit...red grapes, pineapple chunks, and TONS of watermelon. I practically live off the stuff this time of year. I also like to have some walnuts (which are great before a meal because they contain Omega-3s that make you feel full!). Occasionally I have some hummus on mini pitas, or one of those 100 Calorie snack packs (they have everything under the sun now, from Wheat Thins to Keebler Fudge Stripes).

I really need to work on my water intake, though....I just never remember to drink it! I think I will start setting an alarm clock in the kitchen again...

Frozen raspberries really help me.. Sometimes I throw in a little soy yogurt as well. I get my sweet fix w/o loading in the bad stuff

Thanks for the responses. I think my biggest issue is that I travel so much on the road for work that I am never around for an actual "home cooked" meal. Also I forgot to mention I am doing a low carb, higher protein diet.

Today my snacks consisted of Trader Joe's Oven Roasted Turkey slice with low-fat swiss cheese. I also had an Atkins Apple Crisp bar.

I am just not hungry very much, and so my calories for today have only been 920

Here's my list of fave snacks...
* apple cored with all natural peanut butter in it, in each cored half.
* almonds, not too many, good for you but high in calories.
* any cut up veggies.
* beef jerky
* cottage cheese with tomatoes.
* celery with all natural peanut butter, it's actually really good.
* protein shakes, the all natural variety...these are my choice in the morning when wanting a quick breakfast as well.
*slice of chedder with an apple, have the protein and good carbs together.
*half a bagel with cream cheese.

Hope some of these may help you. Really try and eat breakfast, it gets your metabolism going for the day, so important!
