Default RE: Thanksgiving Buffet

I'm having Thanksgiving at my house this yeat, my Mom is going to be in charge of the turkey and for everything else I plan on going to the Weight Watchers website to get healthy versions of everything.* I heard there is a really low fat version for pumpkin pie that tastes amazing.* I think I'm going to have 2 dishes for the mashed potatoes- one that has all the butter and milk in it and another that is a fake - it actually is made out of calliflower, I have never tried it but I have heard it tastes almost the exact same.* I plan on putting out a vegetable tray and fruit tray for everyone to snack on instead of chips.* I know I should drink water but I really love that sparkling cider, it's so yummy!**There is this stuffing I saw Rachael Ray make the other day that I might want to try- It has sauted (sp?) veggies and she ends up crubling pumpkin muffins in it with a little bit of chicken stock and sunflower seeds, it looks amazing.* I think I'm just going to eat however much I want though, it doesn't really take too much for me to get full now so I jsut figure it's better then what I did last year!

Yes, I agree with everyone...portion control is definitely the key.* I have set no food off limits, however, I kinda will follow the three bite rule of the things that are just "ok" and eat more of the things that are worth it!** Thanks everyone!

How are you preparing for the Thanksgiving Buffet?*I am looking for alternative recipes with lower calories and fat.*** So many people give up and cave in during the holidays but*I am wanting to keep myself motivated and still do the right things...without totally depriving myself.* I found a great lowfat pecan pie recipe I am going to try.** Got any suggestions?*

I don't have control over what or how the dinner gets made because I'm going over my parents house and my Mom is cooking but I do plan on being good and not over eating.* I plan on doing the three bite rule and going away from the table satisfied but not full or bloated.* I've done that too often in the past.* I also plan on exercising before I go so I make sure I get that in because once I get home I know I will not feel like doing it.*
My Mother knows that I am trying to lose weight but when it comes to getting together like Thanksgiving I'm a little worried she will feel bad when she sees me not eating a lot so I'm a little worried she will say something like "oh you don't like it" or "I worked so hard to make this and your not eating" but with all that being said I'm not going to stuff myself for her sake either.* I'm committed to this new life style and I won't allow anyone to bring me down.

Honestly, I'm not even going to try.
I will get rid of everything though by Friday.* That's the key for me.
I can survive 1 or 2 days, but if I have tons of leftovers in the fridge for days, they will all just get eaten (to excess)

Lori, you can always prepare a dish that is lo-cal or carb, depending on what you do, so that you CAN control the food that is there in addition to the 3 bite rule.* I'm bringing a steamed vegetable medley since I know my family typically drowns our veggies in butter.* Between that, turkey breast, fruit and salad, I know I'll be fine!

I hear you.* But my responsibility is to bring cool whip (go figure) and drinks.* LOL I know I will be able to control what I eat, I will be fine.* I've prepared myself mentally.

Yeah, I am not going to try real hard either...
*
I mean, I will do simple portion control, and that should be okay. I already eat much less than I used too...Cant pack it away any more for sure..
*
But I will work out hard the day before and the day after to help with the afer affects...One day should not hurt you, really...
*
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!
*
Dawn

It will just be Micheal and me for Thanksgiving.**We're talking about*going out for dinner.* We know there will be a couple of restaurants open.* We were discussing cooking but have*about decided that's just too much for just the two of us, especially since Micheal will be coming back to Minneapolis that weekend.
