I was reading Dawn's blog this morning and had a thought.* Could it be that these plateaus we have are our body's way of telling us that it needs just a little break to regroup, so to speak?* I mean, we push our bodies, trying to get this extra weight off and get it toned and fit.* Maybe after a point our bodies just want to stop and rest a bit.
I've read blogs from so many people that have gotten totally frustrated because, even though they've stayed on program and kept up their exercise routine, they're stuck and the weight is no longer coming off.* I've been there myself.
Of course, I'm probably totally way off base here, but I just wanted to throw this out there and see what others think.

That makes perfect sense.* I actually found that if I have gotten to a plateu and I accidently skip one of my work outs for the week, but keep up with my food log and intake, that I actually do good because I have a little time to relax.* Sounds weird, but I have seen how it works with my body!

Yep, that's exactly it and it's different for everyone.

It's never a straight line downward.* When you plateau, the best thing to do is accept and spend a week or two looking back on what you've accomplished.

The important thing is to not get frustrated.* Once you readjust to the plateau you will start losing weight again.

If you get stuck for a really long time (months) you either at your final weight or you need to change things up a little to get jump started.

Actually Mary, I think that makes perfect sense, and my husband and I actually talked about this today...
I have been pushing my body harder than ever, and I wonder if it just needs a week or two to catch up and/or, maybe a small change in its routine...
I appreciate your perspective and thanks for reading and replying to my blog...
Have a great weekend...
Dawn

I have read before that your body likes to hang onto weights where you stayed for a period of time on the way up..* Maybe that plateau is a weight that you were at for a very long time.. some place your body was comfortable for a long period of time..* For me on my last journey I had a very hard time breaking 250...* And I'm pretty sure that was the weight that I maintained through most of my years of college so I think that could be very true..* This time I didn't stick at 250 though so maybe my body has let go of that now..* But definitely I think as we shape our bodies the scale takes some time to show that shaping.. It is the whole muscle weighs more than fat thing coming into play I think...*

I agree, and I think that it's basically like your body going, "Hang on a minute, let me catch my balance." It makes sense, but it certainly doesn't make us feel any better, lol.
