Motivation is a HUGE facet of dieting, and different types of motivation drive everyone. I recently accomplished my diet goal, and as I’m sure you know already, it wasn't easy. Despite that however, I used an "incentive" reward to keep me motivated; something that I would have forever following my triumph as a reminder of my success. So to get to the point… from a very young age I’ve always cherished every piece of jewelry that was given to me for a special occasion, even if it was gaudy toy jewelry given to me as a young child. Of the pieces that have survived my youth, I will cherish a few that really symbolize a lot for me: the ring from my grandma, my sweet 16 necklace, and a few other pieces that I’ve bought for myself over the years.
I knew that if my incentive was way more than something like an ice-cream Sunday, that I would keep on the right track. I told myself that I would purchase a bracelet once I reached my weight loss goal and always wear it as a way to remind myself of how far I’ve come, and to keep on track.
Once I did reach my goal, I knew I wanted to purchase a bracelet and engrave on it the date that I achieved my target weight. While doing research all over the place for what kind of bracelet I wanted, I came across Jewelry Information Center online.
JIC gave me insightful shopping tips, the latest fashion trends and jewelry cleaning information. The section that was most appealing (and resonated a great deal with me) was their Jewelry Stories section. People have posted about a very wide range of things, like proposals, job promotions, having children, graduating from school.. the list goes on and on. The stories overall though are so endearing - it made me want to post my own weight loss achievement, so I did exactly that as a way to share my own success story and tell others about my creative and helpful way of rewarding my achievement.
As a side note that I thought might be of interest: After I posted my story, I found out that I was enrolled in a sweepstakes for a diamond necklace (I wouldn't mind having one of those!). The contest ends at the end of March, so hurry on up and see if you have some luck!
I hope my story has been helpful and inspiring. I really do believe that, as silly as it might sounds, the bracelet was my own light at the end of the tunnel. It gave me a permanent and tangible reward for my success, and reminds me every single day to stay motivated and healthy! I would absolutely recommend my method or something similar if you’re looking for a way to really get you to reach your goal. All the best!
