Hi Gabby! I know how you feel. In boot camp, I had someone forcing me to workout all the time - I didn't have a choice. But now, I kust don't feel like it, so I don't. You should come over and we can work out together. Or I can go over to your house. Whatever. I bought a Tae-Bo (or however you spell it) ultimate fat burning workout video.

Any one know how to get motivated? I could really use the help. I thought that wanting to look good and healthy for my husband would have got me into it, but without someone to exercise with or someone to yell at me for not doing anything I really can't find the motivation. In need of help! Any ideas?

I get motivated by support from friends. I have been struggling with that too. I lost 1.8 this week. I joined Weight watchers. It works for me! I lost 85 pounds on it.

How about if we set up something here a way to encourage each other to exercise? List our committment and then what we did... i know that would help me.
I heard something that is very motivating to me....
"The difference between a dream and a goal is a TIMELINE"
There is a huge difference between the statement of: "I want to be a nurse" and
"I am going to be a nurse by October of 2008." You can break this down into short term goals by checking into schools, finding money to pay for it, changing your schedule then going to school. The first statement has no timeline on it and thus no motivation.
Sooo I am up to working something out to post and be honest with each other.
Kary

hello
i find feeling better is a good motivator.* as i eliminate refined sugars, fried fats and trans fats from my diet i feel better.* then when i go into the break room and see all that candy and cookies i can say ,"yeah, that looks good, but i know how it will make me feel" then i do not eat it.* i feed my sweet cravings with fresh fruit juices.
excercise is harder for me.* i am very busy and find myself pressed just to get a meal in before heading off to my clinic or my hospital job.

Hi There
Yes I relate to not being motivated. I had tried many prpogram and then I was able to find a program that I lost weight so quickly that It was easy to stay motivated - 2-5 lbs per week. And I have kept it off for two years.
Find your "why" and a program that works and you will get it done!!!

Motivation is the Key. I did great 5 years ago....lost 80 lbs. I was in the right frame of mind and it worked...then I slipped, and went off by having the one thing I have realized is my weakness - alcohol. I just can't combine the two. I've attempted to do this many times over the last 5 years.....either get back on track...or now it is doing it all over again...and I think I've got it right again. The last time the motivation was my body that hurt all of the time. It is the motivation again (and to get back into the clothes I wore for a short time 5 years ago). My legs hurt - and I walk like an old lady!!! I'm not old! So....I need to lose this weight again....to feel good physically! I want to be able to walk in the Race for the Cure if I want to.....do a Slug Ride (bike ride) with my daughter some time, be able to go up and down the stairs fast (like I did 6 months ago) and not one step at a time-shuffling down - because my ankle or knee may not be able to take it. Well......that was enough ranting :•).......I'm on my way! (just have to get going to the gym) Good luck to everyone! Sharon Portland/Milwaukie OR

One of the things I have learned being a self-employed individual is documentation. Instead of saying to yourself this is what I am going to do today and have the day implode/explode all over you and you keep putting it off, than you beat yourself up because you didn't do that 2 hours of exercise, think to yourself, "What am I going to write down in my exercise journal today?" Than at 8pm or any such time you deam necessary read what you have done. 15minute walk around block, 10min aerobics, 30mins walk to the store for bottled water and apples than back. If you think, "How can I make something Cardio or weight lifting?" Than you can add stuff to your list and as you are developing you will find you have more energy to do more.
"The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step"
Than at the end of the day e-mail or call a buddy and tell them what you did. You might be surprised at how much you do when you are telling what you HAVE done instead of what you will do.

Don't make it about the weight. Make it about how you feel. In my opinion exercise is the best pick me up that you can get. Your entire day feels better, and you feel like you have done more. If you make it a chore or something you are forcing yourself to go against your will then it will be hard to stay on track. Enjoy yourself, find things that really enjoy doing and aren't forcing yourself to do. Join a walking group, go out and do some mini golf with someone instead of a movie, go on the treadmill and only do exactly as much as you want to do, you may find that once you get on, you start to become motivated enough to continue going for a good amount of time. Take a dance class, doing things in groups is often much more fun than doing things alone. Take up a sport that you have always wanted to try and master it. Things where you can laugh and have a good time instead of things that you spend the day dreading are a much better way to get where you want to be. Make it about having a good time and feeling good about yourself and it will happen on its own.
