Hi Gabrielle, I am a newbie here. I also belong to another group called Food Addicts Anonymous. I like their group support and ideas and posts--I have lost 25 pounds--I have also learned from a book called "Food Addiction The Body Knows " by Kay Sheppard. I highly recommend that book. Personally I had to surrender to the fact that I could no longer handle certian kinds of food. It took me 10 days to withdrawl from sugar, wheat and flour products. The amazing thing now is that I have no cravings! I have food memories and I have had trouble getting use to following a food plan--how ever I am finding myself actually using two sets of measuring cups and a scale and most importantly thinking through my next compulsive bite when I'm tempted to indulge--I think to myself is it worth it to go back to what you were before? NO so I pass this time. I think to myself I can over eat two days a week--yesterday and tomorrow--just for today I am staying the course and surrendering myself to the support of my higher power, my two groups and my literature I am reading everyday to stay motivated. The book I recommended has a food program in it--a suggested plan for how to eat each day. Take care and realize your reaching out for help is your first step toward your recovery--there is a conferance call tomorrow at 11 est at the food addicts anon website. I don't have their address handy but if you do a search you'll find it--these calls really help me. If you want a serious healthy real way to get the sanity back in your life regarding food and everything else these meetings help they really do. ttyl Ruth

I know exactly what you are saying. I am in the exact same place in my life. I do not have the motivation to exercise alone. I have tried to enlist my husband, but he is not there yet. All I can say is set you 20 minutes aday and just do it. No matter what, stretch, yoga, go for a walk, whatever. I am trying to find a buddy to walk with that lives near me, so I have no excuse. I hope you find what works. Stephanie

I know where you are coming from. When I shapped up in highschool (running 3mi/day for 3 months, cutting out meat, soda, dessert, snacking) it was motivating for a while imagining my dream body and the pounds dropped off pretty quickly with that drastic change and the high metabolism of a 9th grader. However, there's only so much variance you can do by yourself. A couple of years afer that as my weight was coming back on, a firend and I started running/swimming/work out videos together and it was a lot funner except for the fact that we were at different fitness levels (which was frustrating for both, she'd be red and paniting and I'd stil be ready to run another mile). Freshman and part fo soph. year of college my boyfriend and I worked out together with the opposite situation and would sometimes drag along my roommate. It was a challenge that sometimes had me pumped to lap him or at least keep him in sight while we ran but it also sometimes depressed me at how much more he could do. I'm looking for motivation too but I know more of what I want with it-a work out partner(s) (preferably a group at slightly various fitness levels so noone is totally alone in lapping/getting lapped but and its more of a fun environment), or someone to try various games (raquetball, squash, aerobics class) with. i took an aerobics class and the class environment was very motivating except I was the most out of shape and heaveiest girl in there (and I didn't know anybody so I'd definatey drag a buddy along unless you are a really sociable person and can make friends super quickly-I'm a non-competitive introvert but I still made some friends). Good luck!
