I do what Joan and Dawn do.* Order the dressing on the side, lightly dip your fork in it and then spear some salad.* You generally only use about 2 tbsp if that for the whole salad!* Doing it this way, you don't have to miss out on the yummy taste!

I love the dressings at Trader Joe's.* They have this creamy cilantro dressing which is excellent and I just bought this new one I love, it is kind of like a greek dressing and it has chinks of feta- Yummy!* I think it ends up being like 25 calories for 2 TBS.* If you have a trader Joe's go there because they have all kinds of dressings.

I also vote for the fork method if you must have ranch.* That's what I do when I go out.* I always get ranch on the side, and I WILL send it back if they put it on top.* If not for calories sake, just because I like ranch, but I've never liked my salads swimming in dressing.* *
Oh and the other thing I should have mentioned earlier, I see you tried fat free dressings, but what about light?* I can't stand Hidden Valley's fat free ranch, but the light is very good.* Might give that a try.* Combine it with the fork method and you're golden!*

Here's my tip: I love honey mustard, but it's so think that it takes a lot to cover the greens. I switched to a low-fat version (O'Charley's Low-Fat is my Fave) ans I measure out 1 serving-2 tbs. Then I add about 2 tsp. water and stir it. It thins it out so that it goes farther, and the taste is not affected at all.

Also, if your salad greens are really dry, the dressing will adhere to them and not slide to the bottom of the bowl. I always use a spinner to dry the greens.

I'm also a fan of real tomatoes. Not the hard, pastel store-bought ones, but real, off-the-vine-in-my-backyard tomatoes. During summer, I rarely use dressing, because a juicy tomato with just the right amount of salt is the best tasting salad in the world! Can't wait till they start ripening this year!

Joann
