Default How to properly judge a diet?

What is the proper time period to use to evaluate a diet?

Obviously there are going to be a day-to-day variance in what type of calories you consume and how many. Some days will be great, some will be simply OK and some days will be misses. So forming judgments on a daily basis does not seem practical or realistic.

What is the appropriate time bucket to aggregate your diet trends?

Should your diet be judged by the week? By the month? Somewhere in between?

Having more data is always better than having less data, so that the deltas become statistically significant. How would others recommend looking at it?

Also, how can I see the inputs into my food journal at any sort of aggregate level?

Unfortunately, the Food Journal doesn't allow you to see your average consumptions over a time period. You might have to re-enter your tracking parameters daily in an xls spread-sheet to do that.

As for success of the diet, I would recommend entering your weekly weigh in in the tracker, to see the graph, and do monthly inches measurments. These two time frames seem to show trends well for each category. Unfortunately, the website doesn't track inches, so alas, xls it is again...

Hope this helps!

Successful weight loss is not just about calories. Nor about focusing on healthy foods and exercise. There is often a significant emotional basis to losing weight and keeping it off.
The truth is that in order to lose weight effectively and successfully, you need certain mental and emotional resources to help you stay focused, optimistic and committed. Although it is likely that you have the potential to do this, the potential is often buried somewhere deep inside and most people need help to bring this potential out.

Here is a useful fact to remember always.

It takes 3 weeks to break a habit
It takes 3 months to establish a new one
So persevere. Do not be discouraged.

If you don’t know how to properly judge your fat loss or fat burning progress from a particular exercise or nutrition regimen, you’re probably not going to be very successful.
