Default Estimating meat portions when dining out.

I know that 4 oz. is about the right size for a portion of meat, and it's roughly equal to a stack of playing cards. However, some portions are difficult to estimate because of the way they're cut. For example, today I went to a diner with my BF and had grilled skinless chicken with steamed broccoli and carrots. The chicken was cut as long strips about 3/4" thick. I could only assume it was far more than 4 oz, because I was only able to eat half of it (along with all of my veggies).

Does anyone know of other guidelines for estimating meat portions besides the "deck of cards" comparison?

I've always heard (through different diets) a good way to estimate it when you're losing weight is to immediately cut the meal in half. Or, if you prefer, ask them to box up half the meal before they bring it to the table. That way you don't eat the HUGE portion you're given.
