Default Fast Food Fish and Chips (Fries) Meals

Reel in the Fast Food Figures for Fish
By Kathleen Aicardi, M.Ed.
eDiets Fast Food Expert

Fish and chips are the oldest and most common fast food in Great Britain, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and some Scandinavian countries. In the United States, Fried Fish and French Fries have been mainstays at fast food restaurant chains but they’re not the most popular choices.

For you fish and chips connoisseurs here are some interesting ratings of the top five fast-food restaurant chains: Jack in the Box
Fish and Chips, 610 calories, 31g fat.
Long John Silvers
Two pieces of batter fish and medium French fries, 910 calories, 49g fat.
McDonald’s
Filet O Fish and medium French fries, 920 calories, 48g fat.
Carl’s Junior
Carl’s Catch Fish Sandwich and medium French fries, 990 calories, 50g fat.
Burger King
BK Fish Sandwich and medium French fries, 1070 calories, 56g fat.

When making your selection, consider the restaurant and their stand on trans fat (see my past article on Trans Fat and Fast Food). Additionally, consider the sauces, such a tartar sauce, that adds additional fat calories.
If you are counting calories and fat grams, I would go with the Jack in the Box entree, however, I believe the portion size is a bit smaller than the other four options (which isn’t a bad thing). As you’ll notice, the other options don’t differ too much in calories and fat content.
Another point to keep in mind; the average women should consume 2,000 calories a day and the average man should consume 2,400 calories a day. If you are a woman and choose the Burger King Fish and Chips, you are ingesting half of your daily calorie requirement with this one meal. A better option would be a chicken sandwich, containing half the calories and fat of the fish sandwich.
Remember, you can enjoy fish and chips; balance and moderation allow you to enjoy your favorite fast foods occasionally. Bon Appetit!

I don\'t eat fries anymore. I don\'t like the feel of the grease on my fingers. Funny thing is, the fries used to be gone before I made it home when I did drive thrus! [
