Question Calorie Confusion

So based on a website suggested my someone on this site I am to eat 1550 cals a day max to loose a pound a week. I am trying but man its hard, I usually eat like 1800-2200 cals, anyway I see so many people are eating like 1200 calories, how is that possible? Am I nuts or what. I weigh 128 and am 5'3 (and want to be 119). Anyway I am starved at 1550 so I just wanted others help or support. Thanks
