Default Soda??

Hey-
Does eliminating all soda (even diet) really make that much of a difference?
I think soda is probably my biggest downfall. I love it. I used to drink soda every day 3-4 times per day. I have less than 1 per day, but am wondering if anyone has any personal experience!

Thanks!

Hi! I say eliminating soda does make a difference. I used to be a big sodaholic. I would drink it in the morning, break time, lunch time and so on and so on. All those empty calories add up and soda has no nutrional value at all. I think a good chunk of my weight loss came from eliminating soda completely. In the last two weeks though I started slipping and drinking more sodas and gained weight. Now I also ate badly too but it was all a combination. The scale went up too. By just taking out soda the last two days did some weight drop. I'm thinking the soda was causing water retention. And the soda was also causing me to be more thirsty and sluggish. Get rid of the soda. If you can't say good bye completely, then have one a week as a reward for a good week.

Thanks WW, I think I will limit myself to the 1 per week as a reward. Last trip to the grocery store, I bought a few lemons to help with my water intake!

Soda = bad. It has made a HUGE difference for me to stop drinking it completely. It used to be pretty much all I drank was diet sodas with the regular sodas thrown in here and there. It was a little hard at first, but now I don't really like the stuff any more. It is basically like poison to the body, and to think that way about it certainly helped me kick the habit.

from my understanding, diet soda isnt "bad" as long as you counteract it by drinking a glass of water on top of it, to flush out the empty values. but i have heard that it can rob calcium from your body?

I don't know if it does or not, but I'm a soda-holic too! The bad part is, it's one of my only options... juice is just as bad, and I don't like the (lack of) taste of water! What can I do instead?

I have one occasionally (like once or twice a week) & drink a TON of water. Soda is empty calories, but I need one every once in a while just to get my fix & for the caffeine boost at work. I don't drink it with meals since I wouldn't really be enjoying it then anyway.

Do what works for you. You know what your calorie ranges are & if that soda can fit into that. If its really important to you make it work. I believe its all about lifestyle changes instead of depriving ourselves. I did find that most days its just not worth it to me to go over my range to make room for the calories in the can.

Good luck!
