Default Sleep

Is anyone else dealing with sleep deprivation or insomnia?
I have heard and read about recent studies that show people who get 6 or less hours of sleep are more likely to be overweight than those who get 8 or more. The exact figures depend on the study you read, but they are definitely enough to get your attention, any where from 30 to 75%. It caught my attention because I gained most of my weight when I started college and started sleeping alot less, mostly becasue I didn't have as much time to sleep and also because of increased stress.
I usually only get about 5-6 hours most night and right now. Between my long commute to class each day and then working and studying and doing assignments, there just aren't enough hours in the day to get anymore sleep. Most nights even when I finally do get to bed, I have trouble falling asleep because I have so much on my mind. On night like this, I only sleep about 3-4 hours.
I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed that lack of sleep seemed to coincide with their weight or times when they have gained weight. Has anyone tried sleeping more and if so, did it seem to help?
When I graduate in May, my schedule should be less hectic, and I should be able to get more sleep. If it really helps, I think it might help me resist cravings if I can understand why they are happening and know that it won't be much longer before the situation will improve.
Thanks for any info.,
Jade

Hmmm...I rarely get more than 5 hours of sleep at night. I\'d love to get more, but I don\'t think that\'s gonna happen.

[FONT=\"Arial,]Getting enough sleep has a huge impact for me on my discipline in heading to the gym and eating well, so it doesn\'t surprise me that there\'s a correlation.
I\'ve had the same issue with not being able to fall asleep because of things on my mind, and I did some reading and tried to follow advice that I found about making sure that you only use the bedroom for sleeping - don\'t work, eat, etc there, that way your body & mind associates the room with relaxation and sleepytime. Also try to have a routine, even a small one, that you do before you go to bed, no matter what....even if it\'s just brush your teeth, brush your hair, feed the dog then go to bed, something like that that signals you that it\'s \"time\" for sleep is helpful. And if there are still things on your mind, try journaling them and that can help to get it out on paper.
Good luck!

Oh yes sleep deprivation here. I have a 3 month old that decides what time mommy should get up for the day. That is a very interesting study and I would believe it!

The right amount of sleep is definitely a huge factor in my well being. What works great for me is 6-7 hours at night and a half hour during the day. Of course, with two little ones, one of which doesn\'t nap, that NEVER happens. They both technically sleep through the night, but I swear that they have a little pow wow before bed time and decided who\'s going to get Mommy up at least once that night. That probably happens 3-4 nights a week. The other nights, I wake up because they haven\'t woken me!

Well, I dont know if it has anything to do with my weight, but I have had trouble sleeping for years...
I think its hereditary. My mom doesnt sleep well and neiter does my sister...I go through phases where I will sleep well, then a period of time where I am up at 2 or 3 thinking...Cant seem to get my brain to shut up sometimes...
Can\'t sleep in anymore either...On my days off I still get up at 6 a.m. Its extreemly frustrating...
