Red face United Moms – April 2009





Hi everyone!

I've been struggling to find a support group I can connect to through this journey. Do you feel the same way?

In collaboration with newfound buddies, we've come up with this group, one we can easily relate to and one that I will hold dear to my heart.

Our similar goals unite us: to lose the baby weight we've been holding on to for so long, offer eachother support and encouragement through tough hurdles and celebrate the ever so wonderful achievements! We're also here to talk about our biggest accomplishment in life, the one thing that motivates us the most... our children!

My girls inspire me to be healthier, happier and successful. They're the driving force behind my persistence, determination and unyielding motivation to a better me. What about you?

Join me on this adventure, and I promise – we will tackle this together!!!



There is only one rule:
Check-in more than 4 times a week to keep this group alive!

I created this group in order to unite our two major passions: weight loss and our kids! We're here to be positive and offer eachother advice, support and encouragement. Like any other group, our weight loss success thrives on optimism, and not hopelessness. So SMILE, today is a bright new day and you will be successful. Don't think it – believe it.

Hi Maya, I am at the end of my track, but I would like to lend the support to your group, because that's exactly what I was doing!

So, it's Leida, 34 y.o.
I have 1 wonderful daughter of 2.5 years of age.
I was trying to lose pregnancy and post-pregnancy weight ever since I had the baby
My starting weight was ~150 lbs
My ultimate goal is to stay in the 120-125 lbs range on a good healthy food & ~1 hour of structured excersise 6 days a week; my other VERY important goal is to provide healthy and tasty food for my family, heart-friendly, because my hubby has high cholesterol (yeah, he is 41, what do you expect...), and get my husband to lose 15-20 lbs to move to the healthy range!

I will post my picture on the Blogs and here, if you want once I am done my Biggest Loser Challenge at work. It's a composite that shows me at my highest, mid-way throigh the competition, and, hopefully, in the end!

Hi Leida and thanks for being here, I'm so glad to meet you!

You're definitely on the right path to reaching your goal and that's awesome to hear that you're getting your husband to lose also! My husband loves popcorn too much to part ways with it!!!

I am super excited about this group. I have struggled so much with my weight through the years. I went through 5 years of fertility treatments before my first. During the process, I started out at 280, got down to 160 low carbing. I felt GREAT. Well, fertility treatments and pregnancy, I got back up to 230. I stayed there till trying for baby #2....got up to 250 then remained exactly that through out my pregnancy....got down to 207 after having jill...so please tell me how after almost 3 years of having her, I got all the way up to almost 290. It's scary and very depressing. I am at 268 right now. I have lost 22 pounds since the end of January. I am hoping to lose 20 more by summer. So that's the long story lol

Reading your journey to date sounds pretty much like mine! Especially the pregnancy part! lol I gained in all 80 pounds since 2001 before I started my own journey. Anyways thanks for being here and good work on the 22 pounds!!!!!!!

Good morning moms!

Well, a little intro about my progress to date!

I started (again) March 15, 2009.

Today is day 17. At the beginning of March, I weighed in at 260 pounds so I can safely say I've lost 15 pounds to date! My first mini-goal is to reach 240 pounds so I'm 5 pounds away!!!! I've been stuck at 245 pounds for the last 3-5 days and it's getting a little frustrating but it will not stop me, it will only fuel me to push more to reach those goals!!!!

I went to the restaurant yesterday in an attempt to test my motivation. Yeah, I took a walk on the wild side! LOL I went through the menu and it must of taken me about 20 minutes before finding a good alternative meal to what my stomach was asking for! I opted for grilled chicken. The main dishes came with a ceasar salad, a potato, spicy white rice and some thick disgusting gravy. I asked the waitress to replace those side dishes with extras of garden vegetables!

I am sooooo proud of myself. I even went the extra mile and asked how they cooked the chicken! It was hard to watch the kids eat their cheese-covered tortellinis and dip piece after piece of bread in their plate, wiping off what was left. Then came the chocolate ice cream and hubby had apple pie! OH KILL ME! lol I lived, and I'm psyched that I could come out of there without being tempted to eat unhealthy.

Anyway, happy April Fools all and behave!!!

Heh, I have to bake tonight for my husband's 20 university class-mates - they have to provide breakfast once in a semester for the group. How whicked is that? Oh, well, it's just one night!

I can imagine... bunch of men = lots of calories, fat and carbs!!!

Actually, nope, I chose 3 recipes from 2 of the heart-healthy, low cholesterol recipe books I have on hand from the library. Lemon-poppy seed scones, walnut and apple cake, and a banana loaf. Each serving is under 300 cals, and scones are like 76 cals each. Hubby is going to take a couple of cream cheeses along for those who want to have the added fat Hubby is overweight and have high cholesterol himself, so my bargain is - I cook healthy, you control portions, because I am not going to turn into a nag.
