3 Is The Magic Number
have a surefire way to blast the fat off your trouble zones. You know the areas I’m talking about: the hips, thighs, butt, and abs. In a nutshell, body-part targeted resistance training, which you crank out three times a week, combined with healthful eating is what will burn the fat. You may have heard that intense, mixed-interval cardio (also known as circuit training) is also good for fat burn. While circuit training is great, it doesn’t allow you to focus on specific body parts.

While giving special focus to those trouble zones, you must also increase your resting metabolism. Eating fiber-packed foods every three hours will help rev up your metabolism.

Next, you must commit three, 20-minute at-home workouts per week. So your investment is just one hour a week. It’s really that simple. The third day of strength training is critical! It will create the maximum results in your specific trouble zones. It’s going to guarantee you sculpt your belly, butt, and thighs with strategic focus. I promise it will be worth it!

Is Peanut Butter Good For You?
Q: Is natural peanut butter a good source of "healthy fat" and protein? And what are the recommended servings per day?

-Ken J.

A: Hi Ken,

Natural peanut butter is a great source of healthy fat, but take caution:

First, do not substitute peanut butter for a major source of protein, such as chicken or fish. Not only does peanut butter not contain a significant amount of protein per serving, but the protein is what is known as “incomplete” protein, meaning it lacks several important amino acids. For protein, go with animal sources or milk protein-based products that contain whey and casein. These are much better “complete” sources.

Also, a peanut allergy is one of the most common food allergens out there. While that doesn’t mean you’re going to blow up like a fish and have a major allergic reaction, it can slow fat loss. Many people find that when they cut peanuts out of their diet it makes a big difference in their rate of fat loss. However, if you are not sensitive to peanuts, then all-natural peanut butter can be a great source of healthy fat as nearly all of the fat is unsaturated.

I would recommend sticking with a single serving a day. I love blending peanut butter with a chocolate protein shake. It tastes just like a peanut butter cup – yum!

To your fat-loss success,
Joel Marion

Halibut with Herbs and Capers

1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves
1 tablespoon fresh cilantro leaves
2 teaspoons freshly grated lemon zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice juice
1 tablespoon chopped pitted green olives
2 teaspoons drained capers, rinsed
1 clove garlic, minced
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 1-pound halibut fillet, cut into 4 portions

Preparation:
Place onion, parsley, cilantro, lemon zest, lemon juice, olives, capers, garlic and pepper in a food processor; pulse several times to chop. Add oil and process, scraping down the sides several times, until a pesto-like paste forms. Pat halibut with the herb paste. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 450°F. Coat a 7-by-11-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Arrange the halibut in the dish and spoon any extra herb mixture on top. Bake, uncovered, until the fish is opaque in the center, 15 to 20 minutes. Serve immediately.

26. Forgive everyone for everything.

28. REMEMBER GOD heals everything.

29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

30. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will… Stay in touch.

31. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.

32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

33. The best is yet to come.

34. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

35. Do the right thing!

36. Call your family often. (Or email them to death!!!)

37. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.

38. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

39. Enjoy the ride. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly don’t want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

40. Please Forward this to everyone you care about. I just did.

May your troubles be less, May your blessings be more,
May nothing but happiness come through your door!

This versatile creamy topping blends the nutritional virtues of yogurt with the luxury of a little whipped cream.

Crunch Your Core
An oldy but goody, this classic abdominal crunch will flatten and tone your belly. Plus, it’ll strengthen your core muscles, including your back, hips and spine. Give it a go!

Step 1: Lie on a mat on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Make a fist with one hand and place it between your chin and collarbone. With your other hand, grasp your wrist. (This will prevent you from leading with your head and straining your neck.)

Step 2: Without moving your lower body, exhale and slowly curl your upper torso until your shoulder blades are off the ground.

Step 3: Hold for 1 second.

Step 4: Inhale as you slowly lower yourself to the starting position.

Step 5: Repeat three times without resting.

Help! I Exercise and I Diet, but I'm Not Losing!

Q: I weigh nearly 300 pounds, and have only lost 5 pounds in the last two months. I use my Wii Fit and exercise 4-5 times a week. I watch my portions of food, eat fresh, lean foods and I don’t drink soda or sports drinks. I have even backed off my juice drink intake. Why am I not dumping off the pounds like everybody else?

-Barbara H.

A: Hi Barbara,

It seems that you’re a little frustrated, which is understandable. Let me try to help.

First, you mention that you have cut back on juice drinking. I’m not quite too sure how much you were drinking before, but I recommend you cut it out of your diet completely. Juice drinks are loaded with calories, so don’t drink them. They’re empty, excess calories in the form of sugar.

Second, while it sounds like you are making strides with exercise, I recommend returning the Wii Fit. Simply put, Wii Fit is a poor excuse that the entertainment world has given us for an exercise replacement. It’s not nearly intense enough, and frankly, most of the activities are a joke.

To see real results from your diet and exercise program, you need to start performing an exercise that will result in substantial calories burned. Go with an interval-based routine in which you alternate periods of low intensity with periods of high intensity for about 20 minutes.

To your fat-loss success,
Joel Marion
