Sorry for the pun, but I couldn't resist. Besides all the other health benefits, being regular is always good!!!
So, according to the FDA, women should be getting between 20-30 grams of fiber per day.(
FDA Consumer Reprint--Women and Nutrition: A Menu of Special Needs )
Remember that when counting fiber grams, they are considered a carbohydrate on labels, so don't be afraid of carbs, as we sometimes are!
For example, one cup of raisin bran has 46 grams of carbs, but 8 of those are fiber. A medium apple has 38 carbs, and 6.5 grams of fiber. A banana has 27 carbs, and 3 grams of fiber.
I guess my point is that you can't get fiber without eating carbs, but not all carbs are bad. It's just the processed, sugary ones that we shouldn't be eating.
So let's try to get between 20-30 grams of fiber per day. If you need ideas for things to eat that fit in with a good diet but also have good amounts of fiber, let's give eachother ideas. I'll post some things that I eat regularly that have a lot of fiber too.
