Default Any triatheletes here

I am thinking about training for a triathlon. Has anyone here ever done anything like that? I read an article about starting at any age, weight, etc. and am feeling inspired. I am a little overwhelmed and not sure where to start. If anyone has any thoughts I'd be grateful.

Hi Jess,
I started triathlon training when I was 37 years old, and 50 pounds overweight. I finished 2 triathlons 3 months later, and did 2 more the next year, sprint distances. That means 1/4mile +/- swim, 13 mile +/- bike, and 3 mile run. I'm now 30 pounds overweight, but in way better condition.

My sister got me started by inviting me to watch her at a triathlon. She's never been an athlete, not me really either, and when I went to watch her, I got inspired. If she can do it, then I knew I could too!

There's an AWESOME book called "Slow, Fat, Triathlete". It's full of information for us newbies written by an author who is overweight, and writes with a wonderful sense of humor. She seriously trains for a first triathlon, and is now doing them regularly. It's a great book to get your hands on.

The really cool thing about triathlons is that everyone I've encountered at these events are laid back, and supportive of everyone participating. It's a FUN thing to do, very worth doing at least once in your life. I congratulate you on considering it.... you'll not regret it!!

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to get ahold of that book.
