I'm in also! I have a 2.5 mile trail that I mapped out that I will just do twice a day.

Welcome Jennifer. Walking the trail sounds like a great way to get 5 miles in.

Lara, you are cruising along girl. 7 miles Holy Cow. But remember, even if you did 7 miles today, you still have to do 5 miles tomorrow. It's the magic number to be consistent in developing a new healthy habit. Otherwise, it would be a trap to skip a day hoping that we would walk more the next day. That's how I gained weight, thinking that today I can let it go but tomorrow I will eat less and lose what I gain today. It did not work. Discipline starts today and consistency is the key. Sorry for lecturing... I learned this the hard way battling binge eating.

I bet that we will walk more than 105 miles at the end. I only did 4 so far but it's just 9:45 AM and I have more hours to catch up with you.

Today is the first day of the challenge. I couldn't sleep and got up at 3:12 am and started cleaning up around the house. The winds are very blustery here as I guess we have some of that storm that is visiting Tatiana. I was going to go walking this morning but the winds are fierce, and I have to do a lot of errands, and be at my son's school at 12:30, so I will be walking this eve. The weather people say that the winds will be dying down in the pm. I hope so. And, I am going to Target to buy an Omron pedometer. I looked them all up last night and feel that Omron looks the best to me, and then lo and behold Tatiana recommended it also. So, anyhow, I am going to do my walk today, and will let you know if I survive hahaha. Yes, just kidding. I will survive. Post stories of your walks for me.

Just got a minute to check in. I got 1.6 miles in so far. It's as far as the kids would walk today. We are going to a carnival tonight if it doesn't rain. I will have to walk as soon as I get done daycare to get my 5 miles in today. 4 miles in a hour. I should be able to do that. Great job Lara.

I have 3 miles just from working today and walking around the house. I am not counting them.

Default Day 1 : Nothing So Far

OK, so my plan was to try and do two 2.5 mile cycles on the elliptical... one in the morning and at night. To prepare myself yesterday, I took a 1 mile walk around the neighborhood with a single Dad from across the way, then I changed my workout last night from 1.4 mile "cardio-burn" program to a 2.5 mile "fast walk" program last night. It went well.

Well, this morning I had school volunteer duties, did the grocery shopping and then mowed the lawns... all half acre of them So now I'll have to do all five miles this evening or tonight. Yippee!

I'll post my results tonight... probably not until 11pm pst.

By the way, how do I attach one of those cool distance countdown meters some of you are using? I'll check out the website.

EDIT: I'm trying to add a ticker here...

Smile Re: Serious walkers get the walk done!

It is 3:07 pm and I am off to go get my pedometer. The weather is horrible and the winds are doing a lot of damage around here, so I am not happy at all. I keep hoping it will calm down soon so I can venture out on foot. Well, I decided that if I am in a store, or stores I can still walk all around and around again, and it's better than just sitting here going, "Oh woe, the weather is bad, so I guess I should just give up". So, I am going to get the pedometer and if I have to just walk around my house, I am gonna do the best I can today!!!!! The weather advisory says we are having 60mph or more gusts. Whatever it is, it's really strong! We've seen powerlines sparking, fences blown over, tree limbs down, poor visibility, and sand and more sand. Haha, I guess that's why this is a walking CHALLENGE!!!!
