I received this information by e-mail this morning as I'm participating in our agency's Fitness Challenge which is currently underway. Actually it was a long e-mail with lots of good information, but this part really jumped out at me so I thought I would share it with all of you.

"A single 24-hour period of inactivity can lead to a 25-percent increase in the amount of fat tissue and a 19-percent increase in the size of fat cells, according to University of Missouri-Columbia researchers who studied the effects of daily exercise and inactivity."

WOW!!! I don't think I will be skipping any more workouts!!!

My goal is to finish the week strong - Go to ballet class tomorrow, then do at least 30 on the treadmill and some core work and arms work, then go to the gym at least once over the weekend, and keep my calories healthy and below 1,200 no matter what over the weekend
Well, I'm fairly pleased with myself. I did the minimum I set for myself for Friday, and so even if I didn't exceed my expectations, I didn't sell myself short, and that's worth something. I did the ballet class yesterday morning, then 30 on the treadmill - it was ridiculously rough, but since this is the first time in 6mo that I've been to the gym 5 days in a row, I guess being sore and tired is to be expected... I did a little arms work but my back is really killing me - I think i wrenched something trying to do plank poses in the thursday morning class i took - and I was starting to use that as an excuse NOT to go to the gym today until i read Molly's post that:

...And WOW was that motivating! My gym bag is packed and by the door, and I'm headed over in a little while. I think I should ease off stressing my back, so I won't lift weights, but I can treadmill or do the bicycle or SOMEthing. ANYthing to thwart those pesky little fat cells - and who knew they were so vicious?! ...It explains a LOT, eh?

THANKS for keeping me on track!

You have done fantastic with your workouts this week! AWESOME!!! Although being sore and tired is to be expected, make sure you are really careful with your back! I speak from experience (and two surgeries because I didn't listen to my back when it was yelling at me!) I think the treadmill or exercise bike would be good choices for cardio without much additional stress on your back! As for the info about the fat cells--I was absolutely shocked when I read it! I have not done as well as usual this week with my exercise, but after receiving that info I won't be slacking with the exercise anymore. I can't afford to! It's so hard to find the time to devote to it, but I've made a new resolve to never miss a day for ANY reason (I'm so good at coming up with them!). Those fat cells apparently are extremely vicious and working against us at all times! Anyway, I think you have done wonderful this week, and I hope the scale reflects your hard work! WAY TO GO!!! Have a great weekend!
