Default Can I ask your advice? Thinking of changing goal weight...

Hello girls,

I know I've been away for a while but I need your help to make a decision. I've still been losing weight and doing well with that, but I'm thinking about changing my goal weight and need your opinions...I know some of you girls have been on WW for a long time and have or do work there, so can maybe give me some help here.

My current goal weight is 140, and I'm thinking of changing it to 150. The upper limit of my healthy BMI range is 159. I'm thinking of changing it because I set that goal over 7 years ago when I first joined WW, and for one thing, I was a lot younger then (and under 30!), hadn't had a baby yet, and was less fit than I am now, by far. I basically just picked a number that was in the middle of my BMI range and set it as my goal. I've never been at a healthy weight, I've always been either way underweight or way overweight. As I get down farther and farther and feel better and better in my skin and in my health, I realize I don't want to get to the point where I'm bony either (I'm 5'7"). But the main reasons I'm thinking of changing it up to 150 are that 1, now that I'm over 30, trying to attain a younger woman's weight goal might not be appropriate for me (and might just end in frustration), and 2, now that I'm sooooo much more active and fit (and plan to stay this way!), I'm carrying around a lot more muscle weight - which is great, but might make a lower weight inappropriate for me, you know?

Let me know what you girls think, I value your opinions.

Thanks in advance,

Sarah

You are sooooo right in your thinking!
I know from experience, alot of people see a number when approaching goal or choosing a goal, and that is it.
Whenever a member would ask me to help them in selecting a goal, the biggest questions I would ask were:

1- Is this weight attainable?
2- Once at that weight, how hard do you think you will have to fight to stay at it for the rest of your life?
3- Once at that weight, are there going to be changes in your lifestyle?

You are answering those questions.

I would change your goal weight.

smooches!

Jen

Thanks Jen...it's been so long that I've had this goal weight that it kind of feels like I'm cheating to change it! LOL But I want a goal weight that is reasonable, healthy most of all, and fits into my lifestyle - and, chasing after a toddler who will grow into a preschooler and helping her grow and learn to love being active, I don't think I'm in any danger of getting out of shape!

Besides, WW itself advocates sensible eating and a sensible balance of losing weight and enjoying life, right?
