Default 3 different numbers on 3 scales

I just started trying to lose weight on Monday. Of course I weighed myself and assumed that was my weight. I work out at my sister's house 2x a week and I weighed myself which said I was heavier by 4 pounds. I also started a "Biggest Loser" contest w/ some friends and that scale said I was 15! pounds heavier. Everytime I weigh my self at home it says around the same as the first time so I know I didn't gain weight. I don't know what to do. Not knowing my weight sucks but even more I might be 15 pounds heavier than I origionally thought! Any thoughts?

Different scales can absolutely vary, as well as your weight depending on what time of day you weigh and what you've consumed recently. I'd pick a time (early am is the best baseline) and one scale to always weigh yourself on once or twice a week, and ignore what other scales say. If i'd eaten a lot of salt during the day I can weigh 5lbs more on my home scale at night than it said i weighed in the morning. If you get different results from different scales - personally - I'd pick the most encouraging one to go with - not whichever said 15 lbs! more. Good luck!

That's a good idea about weighing myself once or twice a week. Since I just started I constantly want to weigh myself hoping the 30 minutes of cardio will lower my weight w/in a couple of hours. I know that sounds dumb! As long as I keep losing weight the starting number doesn't matter a whole lot. thanx and good luck.

It's best to just weigh yourself only once a week, the same time and day every week, wearing the same thing (or nothing at all if possible). I had the same problems in the past and actually had to put my scale away between weighings to keep myself from getting on and possibly feeling disappointed. You spoke of The Biggest Loser...they only weigh once a week. If you must weigh on other scales at different times, only count yours for your main personal records.

It can be a shock to use a different scale. If you can afford it, I would get a new digital scale from Target...etc about $40. The new scale should be calibrated pretty well. Then - Always weigh yourself right after you get up in the morning - Always keep the scale in the same place - Good scales (the new ones) can be re-calibrated when need be too. - Week-Week is more accurate than day-day If you're really curious, you can get weighed at your Doctor's office (or anyplace where there is a 'certified' scale). That will be how much you really weigh. You can then compare that your scale at home.
