Default Skipping - is it meant to be THIS difficult??

I bought a skipping rope and finally tried having a go today, and I was astounded by how breathless I was after just a minute. I tried jumping on the spot without the rope and I was fine, but jumping with the rope was incredibly difficult! Is there a specific technique to skipping or is it possible I was just going too fast?

Jump roping is a great workout! I know it make me winded! Jumping on a single spot doesn't use nearly as many muscle groups as jumping rope does. The body has to work really hard to move all those muscles. You may try slowing it down, but other than that I can't really think of any ways to make it easier.

Keep at it! It'll get easier!

It's crazy to think I could probably go for an hour without stopping as a kid! Practise makes perfect as they say. Hopefully it should prove to be effective in conjunction with my hula hooping
