Default Couch to 5k

I am thinking of starting the couch to 5k program.

basically it helps you work up to being able to run a 5k.

i will probably have to repeat weeks, to be able to work up to even doing the first week, but i think it is a good thing to work towards. i would love to be able to run one day.

anyone want to start it with me??

Hey! IF you have iTunes, there's a podcast that some guy made to use when running the couch 2 5k program which tells you when to run/walk with mushc and stuff.. I really liked using it, when I was running

Hey, Lucy! I read your post yesterday and decided to check into the Couch to 5K program. I think it sounds awesome! I just started today and made it through the first workout, even though I didn't jog very fast or anything. I also may have to repeat some weeks, like you mentioned, but I think it sounds like a great program.

I didn't think it was too tough, but I only jogged at 5.0 mph. I will bump up my speed eventually, but I thought it was best to start slower so I can actually jog for the time they suggest, rather than starting out too fast and not being able to do the whole thing. I hope that makes sense. I also like that they have you start with 60 second intervals of jogging ... my philosophy is, I can do it for 60 seconds, even if it's really hard - 60 seconds is just not that long.

i did it even slower than you.

i did the walking sections at 5km/hr except as it went on i ended up spending half of the walking times down at 4.5 km/hr.

the jogging sections i did mainly at 8km/hr (8km/hr = 5mph), but dropped down to 7 or 7.5 km/hr for parts of it.

the last jog i thought lets go for it and cranked it up to 10km/hr, where i stayed for only a few seconds before going down to 9, then 8 again lol.

but - i did keep going even though after 15 mins i was like i cant finish all of this, and after 20 mins i was like i definitely cant do all this! hopefully i will be able to go tomorrow for day 2s workout. (but only if i am up early enough to go before work!). slightly achey today so good i had today off.

going to set myself a target of doing all the jogs at 8km/hr and all the walks at 5km/hr before i move onto week 2 i think!

Good for you for keeping at it! I remember I kept telling myself it was only for 20 min., but I forgot about the 5 min. warm-up. The treadmill display said, 18 min. and I thought, "Oh good, I only have 2 more minutes until I can do a cool down." Then, I remembered the warm-up and was like, "Crap! I have to wait until it gets to 25 min. before I can cool down!" LOL It wasn't too bad, though. We'll see how day 2 goes tomorrow! Hopefully you'll be feeling up to it.

workout 2 is unfortunately postponed to thursday. wanted to go today but my day is too busy, gotta go on an evening course after uni about my diabetes, which pretty much fills up my only free time of the day.

Don't worry about it ... you'll get it done on Thursday.

I did Day 2 of Week 1 today, which is the same as the first workout. I did bump up my speed a little during some of the walking intervals, though ... I figured that would make the running easier later on, and it would burn extra calories. I kept the jogging intervals at 5.0 mph, though. I'm not ready to up that speed yet. LOL

Good luck!
