I would love to join in this challenge. I have a pedomiter that tracks my walking each day. 300 miles by Thanksgiving. Are you wanting everyone to turn in stats each week or is this just a person goal?

It seems like we just turn in stats as we go. Just post how much you walked every day and that should be fine. Good luck!

Karen, welcome to the challenge. We post our mileage daily.

Matt, I knew you would catch up and do your miles today. Good job!

Yesterday I did one more mile at 8 PM. I plan on doing 5 today. So it's 21 miles down and 279 to go as of now.

I did buy a nice pair of walking shoes. But get this. These shoes have a place for an Ipod chip to count miles, steps, calories, and even adjust the music! I had no idea that the technology has advanced to such degree that my shoes would monitor my progress.

You know, I've only done 2 miles so far today. The good news is though that I did them outside - hooray for sunshine! I am going to go to the gym at 7 and watch the tennis match there. I'm not going to rush on the treadmill though because I want to walk for the entire Ladies Final. Currently wishing I had banged out the mileage earlier so I could just sit on the couch and enjoy the match but this is a way to keep me interested without going nuts. Since my boy Djokovic won, I'm going for 6 miles total. Fingers crossed! ELLEN

I just did one more mile while watching SNL. It's late and I don't feel great and I mostly did it so that I was doing SOMETHING besides eating late at night. Total walked so far = 13 miles

I am checking in... it's time to call it a night. I walked 8 miles today. 5 miles during my lunch time and 3 miles to work and back home. The weather was still great for walking.

My feet felt better, however, I did take breaks after every two miles of walking to rest my right ankle. It helped.

The reason I am doing more than 5 miles a day is simple. I am going to travel a lot during the next three weeks. I will be spending anywhere from 7 to 11 hours in the airports and in the air. I won't be able to do my 5 miles a day every day.

So as of tonight, I report 29 miles down, 271 to go.

Good job everyone on walking!

Will check in tomorrow,

XXXX

Matt,
Good job on stealking time to walk while taking care of your Son.
I need to ask you about your feeling after 10 miles of walking. Wow. You go DUDE. 10 miles... in one day.

I have to tell you that I am so happy for your impressive weight loss because you worked very hard last week and you also inspired and supported many people here, including me.

Happy walking!

Matt, I am exhausted just thinking about 10 miles in a day. I feel the same way about Tatiana's 8 for that matter. 6 is my 'yeah I'm kickin it baby' magic number.

Today I will walk 4 miles. I just want to get in my daily 'required' amount, no more no less. And I better get my act together and do it now because the Open final is coming up sooner than I can fathom. I'm debating actually going to the gym. While I get a much better workout on the treadmill - it keeps me pushing hard on the pace and I can vary the incline - I also have to drive about 10 miles to get there and technically I could do another whole mile in the time it would take me to drive there and back. Hmmmmm well it's Sunday dammit and I am going to walk my 1.1 mile trek around the hood - 4 times so I can chalk it up as 4 miles. Woo hoo she makes a decision. And saves the environment. All in one fail swoop. LOL

Happy walking! ELLEN

Checking in on this beautiful Sunday. Walked 5 miles.

34 down, 266 to go. Sounds good to me. I might do another two miles later. I am getting high from walking. Is it bad? At least it's natural...

Ellen, walking outside lets you burn more calories compared to walking on a treadmill. You need to keep your balance on some uneven surfaces, you need to turn, go up and down a little, and generally you need to keep your eyes and be alert more than if you were to walk on treadmill...

Also your mind gets a lot of stimulation from watching peope, houses, and animals. You smile at children, dogs and cats. You appreciate elderly couples walking and holding hands. There is a lot to learn from watching people.

Your body gets some needed sunshine... you breathe and move your arms freely instead of holding onto the rails. Looking at the green leaves and grass camls your emotions... There are so many benefits of walking, it's hard to write everything down.
