How do I change my theme?

I downloaded a new theme for my blog. I read through pages and pages of information on what kind of themes to download but now I can't for the life of me figure out how to use my theme.
I see people who use different fonts and colors on their pages but I can't even find out how to personalize that.
Can anyone help?
