Default How to beat carb cravings???

I am all new to this and really have a hard time watching carb intake. I choose whole grains and good carb choices but tend to overdue it all. I know that protein helps curb hunger and stays with ya longer but I still want carbs. Any suggestions? I am still very new to this site so bear with me as I learn tricks and forgive me if I do something wrong or dont respond like I should.
To Mary: Thanks for the welcome and I am south of indy so Fort Wayne is about 3 hrs from me, but its nice to hear from a new neighbor. Good luck in your move and welcome to the hoosier state. I have a sister that lives in Portland..that is about an hr from Fort Wayne.
And to all others..congrats and good luck on meeting your goals. I am reading and reading..and still find it hard to keep up on all of the postings. Great info and support and I thought I had enough time in my day to read it all..LOL

One thing you have to consider...one of the requirements of a diabetic diet*is a consistent intake of total carbohydrates from day to day to help promote control of you blood sugar levels.* So, if you are diabetic you might want to check with your doctor or nutritionist*before cutting out all the carbs.

Debbie and Mary,
I appreciate the input from both of you. I am not diabetic but do like to keep a consistent blood sugar level. I do have to have somethings in the house for the kids but I try to limit them as well on bad carbs. We are all doing better on most days. I too love to cook and bake so that doesnt help much..lol I love food in general. And I do read labels and measure. I know I am doing the right things just need to retrain the mind not to want carbs so much.

I would try to eat as many green veggies as you possibly can at every meal and/or take a fiber supplement with each meal.

Both of these will fill you up & keep you full because they slow down the digestion of food (which keeps you full)

Sometimes it's good to give the body what it craves.... *IN VERY SMALL DOSES.*
I suggest finding carbs like French bread,*biscotti, granola and large fat free bread croutons for salads & soups... those carbs that offer a great deal of chewing resistance.* That way, you are getting your carb cravings and having to work extra hard to eat them (you won't eat as much).*
Also, things like oatmeal milk & cinnamon or*grits with a little no-cal butter spray with fresh fruit to supplement the meal are also good day starters that will help you conquer the carb craving early in the day and may help to lesson it when you go to eat your meals later in the day.
Hope those ideas help a bit... ( I have a sweet tooth/chocolate addiction that I am working to keep under control, so I completely understand the carb thing)
PS.* Treat yourself to a baked/microwaved potato every once in a while so that you don't feel overly restricted.* Just use non-fat*butter & sour cream/chives*or low fat/turkey chili, etc as toppers and you can afford that extravagance once in a while with a nice tossed salad (great lunch or dinner for 500-600 calories).* It's worth it, if it prevents you from bingeing at the baked potato bar at the all you can eat buffet!

Hi there, carbs are my down fall also, but before my daughter I was doing great without too many of them. I normally don't buy anything with bad carbs, that way when I want them they arent in sight in my house. Cutting up fresh fruits and veggies and grabbing a handful of those when cravings pop up was great for me.
Also Europe's Best sell frozen fruits like blueberries and berrie mixed, maybe making a shake of of that, with a bit of whey protein powder, some non fat milk or yogurt and berries, the protein will help you feel fuller longer and it is actually yummy!
Hope this helps
Monica
