Default any other vegetarians????

I am a vegetarian and I don't know a lot about meatless substitutes - anything that resembles meat is out of the question for me - just a picky eater. because of this I tend to eat a lot of pasta, breads and rice....which my doctor recently suggested I eat less of. So I am working on finding more healthfull choices that I will enjoy. Anybody have any suggestions that would be great - any good recipies????

Hello! I read ur post on the forum and I found a place a website that has recipies for vegan/vegetarian diets every week they post a couple new recipies from health food cooks/chefs and nutritionists. the website is 3ABN: Three Angels Broadcasting Network - www.3abn.org once you get on the website there should be different "tabs" (red in colour) on the top make sure u select "recipies" and it will take u the "recipie" page and u will see two options "See this week's recipies" or "search archives" hope that you can find some time and take a look see if there are any recipies you would like to try ! I've tried various recipies from that website, quite tasty I might say and very healthy and nutritious! I myself am a vegetarian and going vegan... take care! stay fit!

hi there my name is Teri and I'm a vegan. there are quite a few things that i eat but everyone i know wont touch it. lol tofu is so great for you i suggest you try that if you haven't yet. i also eat hummus everyday and is very easy to make. i put it on toast, in a veggie wrap, or keep the chick peas whole to toss in your salad or with some rice. mushrooms give you calcium too. i eat a big bag of spinach a week. the one thing that i know no one will eat is that i warm up foods in the microwave so they aren't that hard but not from cans to keep the sodium low. add green beans, peas, corn, mixed beans, carrots..... anything and you put it all into a bowl and you shake it for 10 minutes, wears you out pretty good if you shake it hard enough. and it turns into a mush that you can eat up and eat. everyone i know thinks i'm sick but it's so good for you and i absolutely love it. i definatly recommend getting hummus into your diet though. still high in carbs like beans ect. though.cauliflower has a good number of carbs too. YOU NEED TO TAKE A B12 VITAMIN IF YOU ARE VEGAN BECAUSE YOU CAN ONLY GET THAT FROM ANIMAL PRODUCTS. i also suggest taking a multi vitamin with extra calcium/magnesium.. eat whole grain pasta, make it yourself and make your own bread so you can cram it with absolutely everything so your getting so much more instead of just a slice of bread that says it's a multigrain ect. when i eat carbs, i just pack on so much other things that are so good for you so it's worth it to me. mix foods and add everything to everything, you'd be surprised how good some of your creations will taste

Thank u for the tips. I also do like Hummus. I dont make it as often as I should or eat it often cause I dont cook much at home , my mom cooks and yes I love whole wheat pasta and here in Belize there is not much healthy options being imported cause its so oooo expensive but in any case there are a few products. and I am also turning Vegan. I just had an allergic reaction to diary so I have to cut that out... I appreciate ur health tips. esp Tofu I do also eat it out of the box n add some flavor eat up! lol but its not for everybody like u said... take care and keep on loosing till u reach where u wanna be... HI! Beans--bean burgers, beans in your salad, beans everyday. They are so healthy and there are many varieties. I love black beans and garbanzo beans. If you're going to use canned beans-try to get the ones without salt. If not, be sure to rinse them thoroughly under cold water before using. Use flax seed to get your Omegas. Toast the seeds in a dry hot skilletand then grind in processor. Add to anything for extra flavor!!

Yay mor vegs! I spend alot of time on The Post Punk Kitchen: Vegetarian cooking & vegan baking with no attitude It\'s a website of a vegan cooking show you can watch a few cooking shows on it, it has recipes, and you can always ask for recommendations from others. Have ya\'ll tried vegcooking.com? It\'s a PETA website that has a ton of recipes and helpful info on veg*n foods.

Hi,
I\'ve been a vegetarian for over 20 years and know lots about meatless substitutes. A lot of the products on the market are full of chemicals and not real good for you. Like morningstar breakfast strips, they really taste like bacon and I love them, but they leave a strange taste in my mouth and check out the ingredients.
I am trying to move towards not eating any additives, so I eat a lot of vegetables and beans and greens. But occasionally I do make seitan (from gluten flour) and I have Texturized vegetable protein (TVP) around, and sometimes I do buy those yummy morningstar breakfast strips. As a treat.

A really good Vegan diet to follow is the McDougall plan (link to his homepage here). There are several yahoo groups and sites with recipies (do a google search) and he has several cookbooks. I just bough a new one called \'The McDougall Quick and Easy Cookbook, 300 delicious low-fat recipes you can prepare in 15 minutes or less\'. So far its been a great read and I tried one dish.

My favorite McDougall meal is pita pizza:
split a pita bread. put tomato sauce on it and sprinkle with oregano and other pizza spices. Add veggies (I like garlic, onion, brocolli, peppers) and then add alpha sprouts, and broil it in a toaster oven.

I\'ve been vegetarian all my life, just not a healthy one. Like the pastries a bit too much. However, meat of any kind has no appeal and never has. My kids eat poultry and fish and my husband eats everything. My biggest problem is having the energy to come up with healthy meals for myself. I don\'t seem to have that problem for the kids even though I do feed them a vegetarian diet. Hubby gives the chicken and stuff.
